Diphtheria:-
Diphtheria is an acute contagious disease which is caused by infection with
Corynebacterium diphtheriae, a bacillus. The diphtheria infection generally
localizes in the throat and respiratory tract. Symptoms include inflammation
and generation of membranous material on the mucous lining. Diphtheria infection
also causes the generation of a soluble toxin which acts adversely on the peripheral
nerve cells and the heart.
