Measles:-
Measles, also called rubeola, is a disease caused by a viral infection. The
symptoms are generalized, and include skin rash (red spots), fever, and inflammation
of the mucous lining of the respiratory tract. The incubation period for measles
is usually between 9 and 13 days.
Rubeola:-
Measles, also called rubeola, is a disease caused by a viral infection. It is
a common childhood disease among children 3 to 5 years of age in developed countries
and is relatively mild. In lesser developed countries where sanitation and public
hygiene practices are poor, the disease occurs primarily in children under 2
years of age and has a high mortality rate. The virus is transmitted by airborne
droplets (coughing and sneezing). The symptoms include skin rash (red spots),
fever, and inflammation of the mucous lining of the respiratory tract. The rash
first appears behind the ears, then spreads along the hairline and the face,
moving downward toward the feet. The incubation period for measles is usually
between 9 and 13 days.Treatment includes plenty of bed rest, antipyretics, and
antibiotics to combat secondary bacterial infection. If itching of the rash
persists, calamine lotion, oatmeal, or baking soda may be applied for relief.
One attack of the disease confers lifelong immunity.
It is important to consult your physician or pharmacist before using any over-the-counter
drugs or treatments. They will be able to advise you on proper usage and can
warn you of possible side effects and contraindications.
Artificial immunity to the disease can be induced by giving an attenuated (live)
virus vaccine injection. The vaccine is effective in about 95% of the cases.
